The Pegasus Triple-Axis Walkthrough antenna is an 'active' unit, which unlike a normal single loop antennas, creates a complex pattern of continuously changing fields. This means that tags can be read at all angles.
The fields which are produced by single loop antennas, all exhibit a similar pattern which varies according to the angle of the tag. At certain angles, there is no field and therefore the tag can pass through without be identified; at others, although a tag reads successfully when moved around by hand, attached to animal moving at even moderate speed, it fails to be identified.
